Direct detection of non-galactic light dark matter

چکیده

A fraction of the dark matter in solar neighborhood might be composed non-galactic particles with speeds larger than escape velocity Milky Way. The flux would enhance sensitivity direct detection experiments, due to momentum transfer target. In this note, we calculate impact from Local Group and Virgo Supercluster diffuse components nuclear electron recoil experiments. enhancement signal rate can very significant, especially for experiments searching induced recoils.

Direct detection of galactic halo dark matter.

The Milky Way galaxy contains a large, spherical component which is believed to harbor a substantial amount of unseen matter. Recent observations indirectly suggest that as much as half of this "dark matter" may be in the form of old, very cool white dwarfs, the remnants of an ancient population of stars as old as the galaxy itself. We conducted a survey to find faint, cool white dwarfs with la...

Direct Detection of Non-Chiral Dark Matter

Direct detection experiments rule out fermion dark matter that is a chiral representation of the electroweak gauge group. Non-chiral real, complex and singlet representations, however, provide viable fermion dark matter candidates. Although any one of these candidates will be virtually impossible to detect at the LHC, it is shown that they may be detected at future planned direct detection expe...

Galactic substructure and direct detection of dark matter

We study the effects of substructure in the Galactic halo on direct detection of dark matter, on searches for energetic neutrinos from weakly interacting massive particles (WIMP) annihilation in the Sun and Earth, and on the enhancement in the WIMP annihilation rate in the halo. Our central result is a probability distribution function (PDF) Pð Þ for the local dark-matter density. This distribu...

Non-relativistic effective theory of dark matter direct detection

Dark matter direct detection searches for signals coming from dark matter scattering against nuclei at a very low recoil energy scale ∼ 10 keV. In this paper, a simple non-relativistic effective theory is constructed to describe interactions between dark matter and nuclei without referring to any underlying high energy models. It contains the minimal set of operators that will be tested by dire...
